Karatsu ware ceremonial tea bowl from Japan circa 1890. Features an Enso sign on the bowl which represents spiritual enlightenment. The glaze is a specialty of Karatsu and appears thick and creamy but the shape is thin and sophisticated. Some visible hairline cracks and Kintsugi repairs throughout. Kintsugi, is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. Comes with kiri wood box. Hand wash gently with mild soap. Not for microwave, stovetop, or oven.
