Brazilian Black Japiim Basket, Low
Brazilian artist Sergio Matos works alongside artisans from the indigenous Amazonian community of Careiro Castanho to create these baskets. He was inspired by the Japiim, a bird that builds its nest by leaving several sticks with tips left outside. These baskets are woven from the uambé, a type of vine that can be found in Northern Brazil. The red dye comes from the Urucum plant. Due to the handmade nature of these baskets, no two are exactly alike and color may vary between baskets.
