This essence is illustrated through form, texture, and the play of light. I chose an earthy red clay exterior with a soft, brushed texture to contrast with the matte white interior to radiate warm light from within the forms.⁠\u003cbr\u003e⁠\u003cbr\u003eI hand-build each piece using clay mined in Southern California. Hand-building is a process that allows me to carefully respond to how light moves across the surface and within the form. For this collection, I sculpted the custom hardware in wax, then cast it using the lost-wax process and finished it by layering patinas before assembly.⁠\u003cbr\u003e⁠\u003cbr\u003eThe candle holders for me, are like gesture drawings in space. I roll out ribbons and create loose patterns around a post.
